hello friends! i want to make one thing clear before i start this newsletter: i have never hosted christmas. now that we have that memo out of the way, i can safely give you my opinion on what i think would make a great holiday. lately, i’ve been thinking about how much work a christmas dinner is right after a thanksgiving dinner. is brunch easier? maybe?? at least it’s something different though!
my mom hosts thanksgiving, christmas eve and christmas dinner, god bless her. she’s done this every year since i was very, very little. that’s a lot of dinners!! she’s never once said anything about it, but i feel like if i were her i’d maybe want switch up from making dinner for a third time come christmas. i don’t actually know, but that’s my opinion if it were me hosting back to back to back.
christmas brunch just sounds fun. if i were hosting, here’s how i’d pick out my menu:
drinks:
if there are kids, or adults with a sweet tooth and an aversion to caffeine, i love the idea of having some really nice & fancy hot chocolate w/ homemade whipped cream.
definitely mimosas of some form. something festive with cranberries or cranberry juice perhaps?
you can’t go wrong with an iced coffee bar too!
the savory
i’m all about a good quiche. specifically a quiche lorraine, but you do you. a quiche can be made in advance and then refreshed in the oven before serving to warm it back up!
with my quiche i would go for a zingy side salad. im thinking arugula, fennel and a lemon vinaigrette.
it’s not brunch if potatoes aren’t present. i love a small diced yukon gold potato, with onions and bell peppers, heavily seasoned. i like to make them on the stove until ultra crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.
classic buttermilk biscuits would probably be greatly appreciated if they were also included on your table!
the sweet
i love anything flavored with orange, so i highly recommend orange rolls. a fun take on your typical cinnamon roll! you can prep them the night before, and just bring the assembled rolls to room temp & bake on christmas day! if you haven’t noticed, i’m big on any recipe that can be made ahead.
instead of a biscuit, you could do scones! or have both!! it’s the holidays!!! i love these earl grey scones.
fruit salad / a bowl of mixed fruit would be nice. i think kiwi, orange slices and pomegranate seeds would be both beautiful and festive!
let me know what you’d want to have on your christmas brunch menu! i think it’s so fun that the options are endless. bye!!
yessss you can never go wrong with buttermilk biscuits >>>
I feel like if you were feeling ambitious, a profiteroles Christmas tree would be stunning for dessert! I love the idea of a brunch instead of the traditional dinner. Your mom is a champ because cooking back to back is so difficult!
